Important Message from Supt. Louis Baty
Regarding Swine Flu
April 30, 2009
Dear Parents:
Knox City-O’Brien CISD has had no confirmed cases of swine flu
since the recent outbreak in Texas. The nearest confirmed cases are
in the Abilene area. Given the media coverage of the outbreak and
our location in close proximity to Abilene, some parents are
understandably concerned. Our maintenance and custodial personnel
are taking extra precautions to disinfect community areas such as
bathrooms, keyboards, and doorknobs at all the campuses. We have
also placed hand sanitizers in each classroom. Please help us by
asking your children to take extra precautions such as not eating
or drinking after anyone else and washing their hands often. You
may also want to send a water bottle with your child to prevent
transmission of germs from the water fountains.
If your child shows symptoms of any type of influenza, we encourage
you to: (1) have them tested at their physician’s office or the
local clinic and (2) keep them at home until they are symptom free.
For their own safety and the safety of others, students should not
return to school until they have been fever and symptom free for 24
hours without medication. Swine flu is a person to person
transmission that is treatable with Tamiflu and similar drugs. For
more details, please consult the Center for Disease Control link at
www.cdc.gov/swineflu where there are postings in English and
Spanish. We will also be posting updates on our website
www.esc9.net. KC-OB CISD will continue to monitor the situation
closely. We appreciate your support and understanding at this
time.
Yours sincerely,
Louis Baty
Superintendent of Schools
