Elementary SCS Winners
Soil Conservation Contest Winners
Students at Knox City Elementary
recently participated in the Soil Conservation Poster Contest. This
annual contest provides students an opportunity to convey their
thoughts about soil, water and related natural resource issues
through art. It also highlights the educational outreach efforts of
conservation districts through out the state. “Dig It! The Secrets
of Soil” based on the NACD stewardship theme was the topic for the
2009 contest. Students 1st through 4th grade were given the
opportunity to create posters and submit them for judging. Six
places were awarded in each grade level with 1st through 3rd
advancing to district competition. The following students were
winners of their grade level:

An additional component to the Soil Conservation Poster Contest is
the Essay Contest. This contest is open to boys and girls in two
age categories - ages 13 and under, and ages 14 to 18 years. The
contest is designed to express to students the importance of soil
and water resources and how they are linked to providing food and
clean water.
The essays were judged on the local district level with winners
sent to the area level. The state winner will be selected from the
five area winners.
Knox City Elementary entered three winning essays at the local
district level in the age 13 and under category. These essays have
advanced to the area level with results being announced in the near
future. The winning essays were submitted by:
Hailee Cox 4th grader and 1st place winner at the district level.
Preston Lynn 2nd grade, 2nd place winner at the district level, and
Kayla Hunter, 4th grader and 3rd place winner at the district
level.
Knox City – O’Brien CISD is extremely proud of these students and
wants to congratulate them on their accomplishments.
