Two students from Knox City High School's Spanish II class competed at the Spanish Olympics held at Hardin Simmons University this weekend. Erica Trevino and Naomi Ruiz competed against 6 other schools (and their sets of teams) to emerge as the first place Spanish II team.
The competition consisted of four events from Spanish I and II TEKS. The students are tested on their knowledge of Spanish speaking countries and their history, vocabulary, preterite tense, imperfect tense, the ability to script a dialogue, and other areas from Spanish texts. The events are Dialogue, Power Word (like Charades), Jeopardy, and Listening. The two contestants combined scores make up the team score at the end that is used to determine the winner in Spanish I, Spanish II, Spanish III, and Spanish IV..Students must be enrolled in Spanish class to compete in any level.
This is the first year for Knox City to compete at the competition.
Congratulation to Drew McNulty, Kristina Trajkovski , and Sean Logsdon Team Houndbots #11827 for winning second place at the FTC/UIL robotics meet Saturday, February 3, 2018.They took on 13 teams all from Lubbock ISD at the meet. Also, Team Greyhoundbots #12366 Shawn Hacker, Parvina Davlyatola, and Saddam Valiev competed coming in 10th place.

The Knox CIty C-X Debate team competed at the District meet yesterday in Crowell. Overall the team took the District Champion team plaque by sweeping first through fourth place for the second year in a row.. ChIllicothe was the runner up team champion.
Placing in order are the team of Carson Lewis, Senior, and Preston Lynn, Junior; the team of Jesse Munoz, Junior, and Samuel Barnard, Freshman; the team of Corban Cox and John Shaver, both Sophomores; and the team of Mason Smart and Jabarhi Walton, both Sophomores. The first place team of Lewia and Lynn along with the second place team of Munoz and Barnard will compete at the State UIL C-X Debate Meet in March. The team of Cox and Shaver are the State alternates.
This will be the second year of competition at State C-X for Lewis, Lynn, and Munoz.

Preston Lynn qualified for State in his first year participating. This is his third time to compete in a State acaemic and speech/debate event
Kailyn Martin placed as the State alternate and Nathan Williams placed sixth.
State competition is January 8-10 in Austin at The University of Texas and the State Capitol.
